- berita daily

Malays want rednecks, not ‘clever’ people to lead...

The Malays are “backward” because they don’t want “clever” people to lead them, charged Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz in his latest blog posting. “They want Umno rednecks to lead. It’s very easy to pick a fight, just mobilize martial groups. That only requires emotional appeal.”

“To reason out why Malays need not fear any government that comes into power requires reasoned arguments. That’s too taxing on the intellectual portion of the brain it seems. On the other hand, emotional outbursts which are responded by equally emotional support, requires a single spark which is easily accomplished by manipulators and instigators.”

The typical Umno redneck is someone who has a short fuse, added the MP. “He or she believes the DAP is a communist party. The DAP is anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Malay rulers.”

So, added Ariff, it pays to have DAP around, because that provides the Umno rednecks a default button to trigger Malay aggression. “They are worried because the DAP brings a simple message to the Malays and the rest of the Malaysian citizens. Free yourselves from the mental bondage that Umno has wielded all this while.”

The MP claimed that hundreds of acres of Malay reserve land in Teras, Sang Lee and Sungai Chetang have been farmed by MCA people with the connivance of Umno leaders. “Land grab has occurred widely mainly because of the MCA people and those linked to them. These are Chinese. So, why hasn’t the Umno leadership sounded the alarm? Where have the Umno rednecks retreated to?”

Again, who’s the typical Umno redneck?

“It’s someone who blames the Chinese forever as the source of their unhappiness,” said Ariff.

The other favourite bete noire is former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. “This speaks volumes on the morality of Umno people,” lamented Ariff. “In any case, people are asking about 1MDB, the RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s private accounts while in his public capacity as Umno president and Prime Minister, and the money from SRC. These issues were created by Najib.”

“He has told us nothing. When confronted he will offer us serpentine answers and blurt out some pieties to show off some deep-seated religious convictions. Remember when he was asked about Altantuya? He swore the sacred vow that he did not know the woman.”

Ariff appears convinced that nobody believes what Najib says any longer. “He is better off holding his peace instead of speaking about Islam, or Christmas or anything moral. We are not looking at a new Najib. He’s the same one that served under Mahathir and made hay while the Mahathirian sun shone.”

Ariff, in getting back to the blame game away from Mahathir, noted the narrative is that the cost of living is high because it’s caused by the rapacious greed of Chinese business people who are also selling fake handphones, and are behind the Christian crosses being incorporated in house and airport designs. “The Malays who open their windows at 9 am in the morning after forfeiting the dawn prayers, and see a cross across the street, will protest vehemently that their faith is being challenged.”

But the more preposterous statements by the rednecks claim the Chinese are behaving that way because they are being influenced by the DAP of course because it’s run by lunatics. “Suddenly DAP is the cause for many wrongs committed and imagined.”

If PAS were to countenance such statements given by those in the lunatic fringe, warned Ariff, this only serves to remind the people. “We must never allow this country to be run by cerebrally-challenged religious scholars.” - fmt

Najib Declare 700 Million As Donation - Obama Laugh
WSJ’s Last Bombshell For The Year – Najib’s $700 Million Came From 1MDB...

If 2014 was the year of Malaysia Airlines where it lost two Boeing 777s, one disappeared while another shot down; the year 2015 is definitely the year of Prime Minister Najib Razak. The prime minister’s multi-billion dollar scandals easily eclipse any other financial scandals one could imagine in the history of the country, including Mahathir’s.

The Wall Street Journal dropped another bombshell (*yawn*) yesterday, Dec 28, 2015, linking the highly explosive RM42 billion 1MDB scandal with PM Najib Razak’s private banking account, which had suddenly swollen with US$700 million (then RM2.6 billion but now RM3 billion due to ringgit depreciation) from some unknown generous donor(s).

Najib had called and met a group of senior (UMNO) leaders in July to remind them everyone had benefited from the money. A cabinet minister who was present claimed the prime minister said the US$700 million funds weren’t used for his personal enrichment, but channelled to politicians or into spending on projects aimed at helping the ruling party win elections in 2013.

According to minutes from 1MDB board meetings seen by The Wall Street Journal, hundreds of millions of unreported political spending were made possible because of 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad), a state investment fund controlled by PM Najib Razak. Therefore, it’s safe to presume that 1MDB was setup merely to suck taxpayers’ money to political party UMNO.

Jho Low - Money Dropping - TheEdge Siphoning USD700 Million

That explains why despite Najib’s repetitive drumming about 1MDB making good investments and profits, it has registered more than US$11 billion in debt instead. That also explains why the prime minister had tried to convince, without much success, that the US$700 million found in his private banking account wasn’t from 1MDB.

In a meeting on Dec. 20, 2014, 1MDB board members discussed what to do about police who came to investigate allegations of financial irregularities, according to the minutes. The 1MDB fund also transferred at least US$14 million (then RM42 million but now RM60 million due to ringgit depreciation) to politicians through Ihsan Perdana Berhad.

Ihsan Perdana Berhad, a company formed in 2011 but exempted from filing financial statements, sent the US$14 million in cash to Najib Razak’s personal accounts but received the money from SRC International Berhad, a company controlled by Malaysia Finance Ministry, of which the prime minister himself heads. PAC minta WSJ kemukakan bukti mengenai 1MDB...

- mk

PAC wants WSJ to submit evidence on 1MDB and difficult to summon Jho Low...

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) had been told to submit the evidence on 1MDB to Public Accounts Committee (PAC) so it could follow up with the relevant parties at the hearing of the state-owned strategic fund.

PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw made the call when he was asked to respond on the latest report by the US financial daily.

"We cannot ask questions based on allegations. We can only follow up with questions based on facts," he told Malaysiakini.

"We do not know the source of the report, how are we going to ask them?

"Being unreasonable cannot be the way (of how PAC conducts its interview during proceedings)," he added.

Thus, Tan suggested that WSJ provide them with evidence to allow them to follow up based on facts.

In its latest report, the daily had cited minutes of the1MDB board meeting where the directors had voiced their worry of being probed for criminal breach of trust and financial irregularity.

It claimed 1MDB prioritised political spending despite insufficient cashflow.

The report also claimed that billionaire Jho Low helped the BN government handle the election-related spending.

WSJ editor Tom Wright (photo) said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is also the chairman of 1MDB advisory board, had fired audit firms Ernst & Young and KPMG after they asked questions about the fund's joint venture with PetroSaudi International.

On this, Tan confirmed that both Ernst & Young and KPMG were terminated by 1MDB.

"We knew that they were fired, but no reasons were given by them at the proceedings," he said.

Difficulty in summoning Jho Low

Meanwhile, Tan also reiterated on the difficulty in summoning Low, as the latter's name has not been appearing in any of the records related to 1MDB.

"His name last appeared on (1MDB's precursor) Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) and not 1MDB.

"We can only summon the witness through the treasury. Furthermore, (even if we summon Low), we do not know if he will come," he said.

"From the aspect of law, you need to have some basis to call the witness," Tan added.

PAC chairman Hasan Arifin refused to respond to WSJ's latest report.

"It is not my duty to comment on this matter," he spoke curtly before cutting off the line.- mk

Jho Low kendalikan perbelanjaan politik 1MDB tika PRU-13...

Taikun perniagaan Jho Low dibawa menyertai 1MDB untuk membantu mengendalikan perbelanjaan berkaitan pilihan raya umum, dedah seorang bekas ahli politik parti pemerintah.

- mk

Jho Low helped disburse 1MDB political spending...

Business tycoon Jho Low was brought into 1MDB to help handle the state fund's election-related spending, a former Malaysian ruling coalition politician is reported to have revealed.

This is despite Low not holding any formal title within Umno, the politician says in a report published by US financial daily The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) today.

A former employee of 1MDB is also reported as saying that there was intense secrecy surrounding 1MDB, with the senior management refusing to share documents on Google.

The management argued that the opposition might be able to access them, the former employee said.

He also revealed that Low used the code name "UC" when he was dialed into conference calls.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's former political secretary Oh Ei Sun is quoted as saying that 1MDB was viewed by the Prime Minister's Office as a way to finance projects to boost Umno's popularity.

1MDB set aside money for such projects proposed by staff in the Prime Minister's Office, Oh said.

"If we thought it could help the incumbent government pull in some votes, we could propose that," added Oh, who later quit his post due to his concern over the lack of transparency in the government.

According to WSJ, the state fund's minutes also revealed that the board's chairperson had "noted that it is vital for the company to win the support of Sarawakians, particularly the natives".

Senior strategist for BN Penang in GE13

The government had also sold prime land in Kuala Lumpur to 1MDB in 2010 at below-market rates to develop a financial centre, in a joint venture with the subsidiary of an Abu Dhabi sovereign fund, WSJ reported.

Meanwhile, a leader of the BN, the former ruling coalition in Penang, is reported to have said that Low had returned to Penang, which is his hometown, before the May 2013 election and acted as a senior strategist for the BN.

The leader said that Low told the candidates for the election that if they needed money for their campaigns, they could request from him and he would deliver the funds.

Among the things the candidates requested money for, the leader said, was to paint voters' houses and give out free food and other favours.

Coalition party politicians from the ruling federal colaition said the money did not flow through official Umno channels and the source of the funds, along with its total size, were unclear.

"The money was flowing like hell," another former coalition lawmaker said, adding that he assumed the funds were from corporate donors.

According to WSJ, Low’s school friend Geh Choh Hun organised a group called 1Malaysia Penang Welfare Club, which handed out checks for hundreds of thousands of dollars to non-government groups.- mk

The 1Malaysia-Penang Welfare Club...

The 1Malaysia-Penang Welfare Club, which is on a massive donation drive in Penang, has expressed unhappiness that its ‘noble’ intention has been misconstrued by certain quarters.

At the dinner, jointly organised with the Women's Centre for Change  (WCC), Geh handed out a total of RM340,000  to 29 NGOs working on issues relating to women and children.

Geh presented a mock cheque of RM200,000 to the WCC fundraising ambassador Annie Chin, while the other NGOs received RM5,000 each.

NONEThe dinner featured free flow of beer, lucky draws, a fashion show and entertainment by Taiwanese-Hokkien sensation Only You.

Several BN leaders were among the 800 guests, who also included well-connected billionaire Low Teck Jho - or Jho Low (right) - as he is better known.

The club has been making waves since the beginning of the month by organising free dinners in various locations, especially in the Pulau Tikus area under the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency. - mk,15 April 2013

1MDB and the Money Network of Malaysian Politics

by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope
Wall Street Journal,Dec. 28, 2015

Prime Minister Najib Razak tapped wealth fund to ease ruling-party’s victory

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was fighting for his political life this summer after revelations that almost $700 million from an undisclosed source had entered his personal bank accounts.

Under pressure within his party to resign, he called together a group of senior leaders in July to remind them everyone had benefited from the money.

The funds, Mr. Najib said, weren’t used for his personal enrichment. Instead, they were channeled to politicians or into spending on projects aimed at helping the ruling party win elections in 2013, he said, according to a cabinet minister who was present.

“I took the money to spend for us,” the minister quoted Mr. Najib as saying.

It still isn’t clear where the $700 million came from or where it went. But a six-month Wall Street Journal examination revealed that public entities spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a massive patronage machine to help ensure Mr. Najib’s United Malays National Organization stayed in power. The payments, while legal, represented a new milestone in Malaysia’s freewheeling electoral system, according to ruling-party officials.

The UMNO has led every Malaysian government since the country’s independence from Britain in 1957, making it one of the world’s longest-ruling political parties. Its extraordinary grip on power has delivered economically for Malaysia, boosting living standards and establishing the country as a fast-growing emerging market and U.S. ally in Asia.

But its dominance of the vote, its critics contend, has prevented Malaysia’s democracy from maturing in a similar fashion, instead leaving a system riven by patronage and vote-buying that analysts say has consistently skewed results in UMNO’s favor.

The Journal examination, which included interviews with ruling coalition politicians and former government employees as well as a review of documents related to a state-investment fund Mr. Najib set up, found hundreds of millions of dollars in unreported political spending. Much of it flowed from public sources or programs set up for other purposes.

The effort relied heavily on the state investment fund Mr. Najib controlled, 1Malaysia Development Bhd., according to minutes from 1MDB board meetings seen by The Wall Street Journal and interviews with people who worked there.

The prime minister, who is chairman of 1MDB’s board of advisers, promised repeatedly that the fund would boost Malaysia’s economy by attracting foreign capital. It rolled up more than $11 billion in debt without luring major investments.Continue reading...

Najib takut runding dengan pemegang konsesi kroni...

Rafizi

Rafizi (gambar atas) berkata, umum mengetahui Najib menubuhkan Unit Kerjasama Awam Swasta (UKAS) bawah Jabatan Perdana Menteri yang bertanggungjawab mempermudahkan penswastaan projek-projek kerajaan melalui konsep konsesi.

Mutiara sehingga proses penghakiman berakhir.

Just zero-rate mobile prepaid reloads, PKR urges Putrajaya...

Instead of imposing a goods and services tax (GST) rebate on mobile prepaid reloads for just one year, Putrajaya should resolve the problem once and for all by declaring the reloads a zero-rated item, PKR said today.

PKR strategy chief Sim Tze Tzin said the party opposed the rebate as it was just a temporary measure, done to pacify the people angered by the 6% GST imposed on mobile prepaid reloads.

He said the government will stop providing the rebate after a year, and that would leave the public back to square one.

"PKR rejects the new solution from the government. It is extremely unfair for the low-wage earners, pensioners and the youth, who had believed the government's promises. After a year, the 6% GST on mobile prepaid cards will return.

"PKR proposes that mobile prepaid cards be zero-rated. This will solve the problem and help the low-income earners.

"But the government has rejected the proposal because it needs the GST money," Sim said in a statement released today.

He said the telcos were also unwilling to foot the annual RM850 million in GST revenue Putrajaya earns from mobile prepaid reloads, even though it had willingly absorbed the now-abolished 6% sales and services tax.

Sim added that it was shameful for the government not to have come up with a permanent solution nine months after the GST was introduced.

He also took exception to the fact that the announcement on the rebates yesterday came from a "non-governmental organisation", saying this showed Putrajaya was too afraid to face up to the problem.

Yesterday, the Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) said the rebates will be offered until December 31, 2016, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's announcement during the tabling of Budget 2016 on October 23.

Under Budget 2016, Najib announced that rebates for GST will be offered to prepaid mobile phone users and that the government was willing to "let go" of some earnings from the broad-based consumption tax to lighten the burden of consumers.

The rebate follows public outcry after mobile phone prepaid reloads were subjected to GST charges.

Then deputy finance minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan had said there would be no changes to the prices of reload coupons, as the 6% GST would merely replace the 6% sales and services tax.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and CFM later clarified that consumers would have to bear the GST cost on prepaid reloads as communication services were not exempted from the tax nor zero-rated.

In May, former communications and multimedia minister Datuk Seri Shabery Cheek said it was unfair to demand telcos absorb the GST on behalf of consumers, as it was a consumption tax.– tmi

Dr.Asri - Kalu akai tu bluuur tak perlu jadi pak Menteri...

- f/bk/fmt

Don't fall for WSJ report on 1MDB's US$850m, says DPM...

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged the people not to fall for the latest report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which cited an unknown source in explaining how US$850 million was transferred from 1MDB.

"We should not fall for the information of the relevant media, we should not punish (1MDB) based on unverified source.

"Thus, I feel it is better for us to let the investigating bodies in Malaysia to probe so the truth will be known.

"High-level credentials should be given to the investigating bodies," he said in a press conference.

In its Dec 17 report, the US-based daily said 1MDB fund was sent to 'Aabar Investments PJS Ltd', which closely resembles the name of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Investment Co's (IPIC) subsidiary - Aabar Investment PJS.

WSJ reported the news based on documents reviewed by the publication and those familiar with the matter.

However, Zahid today made no effort to deny or admit the authenticity of the news.- mk

Jangan terjebak dengan laporan WSJ, kata TPM

Grey matter says...

1. Dear DPM, firstly, WSJ has sighted documents first hand of these transfers of USD850 to an offshore account.

2. WSJ has given an opportunity to IPIC to deny the report which IPIC did not deny.

3. IPIC had declared in its financial statements that it does not have any off shore accounts.

4. IPIC through its financial statements have not received these monies in their account as disclosed to the London Stock Exchange.

5. IPIC has terminated or suspended it senior management due to this financial debacle.

6. Until today 1MDB has only issued a bare denial of the report and did not specifically deny the transaction.

7. Prior to publishing the report 1MDB had been given an opportunity to deny its contents which 1MDB did not deny.

Since this report has been published a few weeks ago and if it is NOT correct, I believe 1MDB must take action against WSJ from asking them to withdraw the untrue statements and sue WSJ for defamation in an international court.

Kes rogol di pusat tuisyen terkemuka di Kota Kemuning...

_Lim-Lip-Eng,-Sexual-Assault

- mk

Rape case at a prominent tuition centre in Kota Kemuning...

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has urged for those with information about a tuition teacher who had supposedly raped his student to come forward.

He said the history teacher is also believed to have sexually assaulted other students, and he encouraged them to come forward as well.

“If you yourself or your friends have suffered a similar fate in the hands of this or other tuition teachers, please go and lodge a police report, or come to me, or even go to the nearest political party.

“Lastly, I advise the friends, the colleagues, and family members of this suspect – after reading this news – please convince him to surrender to the Shah Alam district police headquarters, or whoever has information on his whereabouts, please give it to the police or give it to me,” he said in a press conference at his service centre in Segambut today.

Lim said he is acting as the lawyer of a former student of a prominent tuition centre in Kota Kemuning, where the alleged crime took place on several occasions in 2012.

At 14 years old, the victim was an underaged girl at the time and was taking history lessons at the centre.

After a class in February that year, Lim said the teacher told the entire class to leave except for the victim, including the victim's elder brother who was told to wait outside.

The teacher then reportedly made sexual advances towards the victim, including to molest her, but she resisted and the teacher let her go.

On the following week in March however, the teacher again told the class of about 40 students to leave and then was alleged to have raped the victim in the classroom over a period of about 15 minutes.

“She was so scared. She didn't know what to do and she was afraid of losing this teacher, because he is very famous in teaching history and she was very poor (in that subject).

“So the rape happened another two more times,” Lim said, adding that the incidents went on until May 2012 when it inexplicably stopped.

The victim continued to study at the tuition centre until she sat for her PMR examination in 2013.

Malaysiakini is withholding the identity of the teacher and the tuition centre involved, pending comment.

'Her friends would not believe her'

Lim said that apart from being afraid of losing the teacher's tutelage, the victim did not report the incident because her friends would not believe her.

Instead, he said her friends believed that she was lying, and that the teacher would not commit such a crime against his students.

In addition, when the victim informed another teacher working at the tuition centre about the incidents, she was told to keep quiet.

She kept her silence until this year, where she related her experience to a friend she met online and was encouraged to tell her parents.

Lim said the victim did so on Oct 18, and the parents then approached him for help on the following day.

However, it was decided that she should lodge the police report only after the victim - now 17 - sits for the SPM examination, so as not to interrupt her studies.

The police report was lodged at the Shah Alam district police headquarters on Dec 18, and copies of the report had been distributed to the press.

Meanwhile, the victim had been taken for medical examination and counselling.

Lim said the victim is believed to be not the only one, because the teacher appeared to be calm when making sexual advances against the student.

Moreover, the victim claimed that there had been rumours about the same teacher molesting other students.

He said that as of yesterday evening, he was informed by the investigating officer that the police have gone to the tuition centre and approached the suspect's family members, but could not locate the suspect himself.

The last time the suspect was heard of, he said, was on Dec 21 when the suspect went to the victim's home and asked to meet the father to “settle” the case.

Only the victim's elder brother was home at the time, who told the teacher to see Lim instead and mentioned Lim's phone number to him twice.

In a video of the purported exchange between the teacher and the brother, the teacher complained that he didn't have anything to take down the number, but the brother retorted: “That's none of my business.”

The teacher then walked away quietly after the exchange.

For now, Lim further encouraged parents to pick up their children from tuition centres on time.- mk
