Kenyataan menteri bukti SPR diperguna...

Dakwaan menteri Umno bahawa Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad menjadi punca banyak kerusi Melayu menjadi kerusi campuran membuktikan Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) telah digunakan oleh kerajaan.

Ahli Parlimen Bukit Bendera Zairil Khir Johari berkata, dakwaan Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri membuktikan kerajaan menggunakan SPR, badan bebas dan berkecuali, bagi memanipulasi pilihan raya.

"Kenyataan yang dibuat Ismail membuktikan bahawa SPR merupakan alat politik Umno-BN untuk memastikan mereka kekal berkuasa.

"Tidak hairanlah BN berjaya memenangi 60 peratus kerusi parlimen walaupun hanya mendapat 48 peratus undi popular pada pilihan raya umum yang lalu.

"Ini bermakna bahawa keputusan pilihan raya sekian lama ini sebenarnya tidak sah bukan sahaja dari segi moral, tetapi juga dari segi perundangan," katanya dalam kenyataan medianya hari ini.

Zairil (atas) yang juga penolong setiausaha publisiti DAP berkata, kenyataan ahli Majlis Tertinggi Umno yang juga menteri pertanian dan industri asas tani itu juga membuktikan penyalahgunaan kuasa lama membarah.

"Sikap Ismail menyerlahkan betapa penyalahgunaan kuasa telah lama berdarah daging dalam kerajaan Umno-BN.

"Ia juga mendedahkan keangkuhan pemimpin-pemimpin parti pemerintah yang bukan sahaja mencabuli hak demokrasi rakyat tetapi juga berani menguar-uarkannya tanpa segan silu," katanya lagi.

Semalam, Ismail mendakwa, ketika menjadi perdana menteri, Mahathir banyak mengubah kerusi majoriti Melayu menjadi kerusi campuran.

Beliau mendakwa, ia berikutan undi merosot yang diperoleh BN daripada kaum Melayu pada pilihan raya umum 1999.

SPR bagaimanapun hari ini menafikan dakwaan Ismail itu dan menegaskan amalan gerimander atau mengubah sempadan pilihan raya untuk mendapat kelebihan politik tidak berlaku di Malaysia. - mk

Umno supreme council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s gerrymandering accusation against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad vindicates claims that the Election Commission (EC) is a “tool” of the ruling party, the DAP says.

“Truly, Ismail Sabri’s statement should be viewed as a serious matter.

“Although many academicians, NGO activists and politicians have earlier shown proof of gerrymandering of electoral boundaries, the EC and the government have roundly denied the claims,” Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari said today.

“However, Ismail Sabri’s admission is proof that the EC is a political tool of Umno-BN to enable them to win 60 percent of the parliamentary seats with just 48 percent of the popular vote in the 13th general election,” Zairil said in a statement.

Yesterday, Ismail who is the agriculture and agro‑based industry minister, attacked the former PM for undermining Malay constituencies by making them mixed constituencies.

His remark is seen to be aimed at defending Prime Minister Najib Razak against Mahathir’s most vicious attacks to date over the past weeks.

However, the Election Commission (EC) today denied Ismail's claim, saying the mixed seats were due to voter movement and not from any interference by the commission.

"There is no gerrymandering in our electoral borders," EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Yusofsaid at a press conference today, waving the minister's allegation away as "politics".

Gerrymandering is explained as the result of adjusting electoral borders to include or exclude certain populations, rather than the movement of voters from one constituency to another.

'EC needs overhaul'

Zairil however said Ismail’s revelation was “not surprising”.

“When it is uttered by someone who is a federal minister and an Umno supreme council member, who feels no shame or guilt in admitting how a commission that is supposed to be free had independent has been abused by the government to manipulate the elections in the country, the implication is very great.”

He added Ismail’s admission implies the election results up to now are now invalid, “not only from a moral standpoint but also from the legal perspective”.

He surmised that this would mean the BN government is not fit to represent Malaysians and to make any policy decisions, such as the burdensome Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Zairil said this also means the EC is not fit to regulate electoral matters, “including the process of redelineation” that is currently in progress.

The Bukit Bendera MP called on the redelineation process to be halted pending a total reform of the EC “to make it an institution that is truly independent”.

Taking a swipe at Umno, Zairil added the admission also shows Umno “has never been interested in placing the interests of the Malay race as their struggle” but is only looking after its own interests.

“With this expose, what has Perkasa and Isma have to say? Will they continue to defend Najib and Umno as the defenders of their race?” he asked - mk

Najib tidak menjawab soalan...

Penjelasan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dalam Program Soal Jawab Khas yang disiarkan TV3, dikatakan tidak menjawab persoalan yang dibangkitkan Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, khususnya berhubung misteri pembunuhan Altantuya Shaaribuu.

Hujah itu dibuat berdasarkan rakaman sumpah beliau di sebuah masjid beberapa tahun lalu yang dikatakan dilakukan secara umum tanpa menyebut nama wanita berkenaan.

Dalam blog bnmasjidtanah, penulisnya membangkitkan semula lafaz yang dibuat Perdana Menteri.

“Mutakhir ini gegak gempita dengan isu yang hangat diperkatakan apabila Tun Dr. Mahathir mengajukan beberapa soalan kepada YAB Datuk Sri Perdana Menteri. Ada yang kata soalan soalan Tun Dr M bersifat soalan panas dan tak kurang juga ada yang menklasifikasikan ianya sebagai soalan soalan CEPUMAS!!!”, tulisnya.

Ulasan yang dibuatnya secara berlapik yang kemudian meminta pembaca menilai sendiri sumpah berkenaan dengan meletakkan rakaman visual yang disiarkan di Youtube.

“Merujuk kepada soalan “Siapa Arah Bunuh Altantuya…???”. Maka jawapannya ada dibawah ini, saksikanlah video klip berdurasi 00;01:43 minit ini. Selamat menonton!” katanya.

Salah seorang pembaca yang dikenali sebagai enigma kemudian memberikan komennya.

“Video ni tak menjawab soalan Tun M!!!Tun M tak kata Si Jibby yang arahkan bunuh altantuya!!.

“Soalan Tun M siapa arah bunuh Altantuya..

Yang si Jibby gelabah nk bersumpah apehal???!!!

Dia ada terlibat ke???!!! soalnya.

Sementara itu, penulis blog yang dikenali sebagai Din Turtle,melalui laman blognya, dinturtle.blogspot.com, turut kecewa dengan jawapan yang diberikan Najib.

Memang dah tahu pun si Najib hanya berani jawab kat TV je, soalan dan jawapan dah disediakan,dia takkan berani kalau berdepan secara one to one...

More questions on Twitter after Najib’s TV3 interview...

Datuk Seri Najib Razak's interview on private television station TV3 has been a talking point among Twitter users since last night, with many asking why the session had to be pre-recorded and not aired live.

Another agreement among social media users was that there should be a debate between Najib and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who recently took the prime minister to task over the controversial issues surrounding debt-ridden strategic development company 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Twitter user Penghasut Rakyat using the handle @PutraREFORMASI had this to say: “Najib penakut...Pre recorded, don't dare to be on live tv..Dah prepare questions and answers...That means he got something to hide.”

Another user, Rauff Jinx #13, going by the handle @achmedrauff posted: “Courage? Firstly its recorded. Secondly definitely scripted. My 3 year old acts better in front of the camera #PMSpeaks.”

SyamimRashidi, using Twitter handle @sir_msr, said: “We need real debate, NOT scripted interview.”

Another Twitter user, Wong Shu Qi posted: “Why Najib explain #SeditionAct thru TV? why can't he go to parliament to defend his government's stand? or afraid to debate w/ opp MP?”

DAP's Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming was not to be left out from the chatter on Twitter, where he questioned Najib's reluctance to face Dr Mahathir: “Najib muncul di TV3 atas program yang direkodkan sebelum siaran. Soalnya: mengapa tidak berani berhadapan dengan Tun Dr M.”

(Najib appeared on TV3 in a pre-recorded programme. The question is: why is he not brave enough to face Tun Dr M.)

Twitter user Sangetha Jayakumar, using the handle @SangethaJ, was among those who hoped to see a live debate between the former and current prime minister, posting: “This would be awesome if the interviewer was DrM. Or better still a live debate between the 2.”

Another user, using the Twitter handle @MatNoIsmail, said: “I also wish Tun M and DS Najib FTF debate, questions and answers session. The thing is Najib will never ever do debate.”

This was echoed by Erizandria Queen, who tweeted using the handle @Erizandria: “Must have a session with Mahathir and Najib asking each other questions. Barulah best. Real debate.”

Another user, @hafizshasim, had this to say of the interview: “Najib touches on every issue but as expected,no concrete answer. Efforts appreciated but expect more Mahathir bullets.”

Twitter user Rocky's Bru, going by the handle @xrockybrux, posted: “Thank you DS Najib Razak for responding to most if not all the questions posed by Tun Mahathir. I hope the Tun is happy with your answers.”

Just Hariz, @harizrhisham, meanwhile, had this to say: “Najib coming out with his recent ‘interview’ shows just how vulnerable his position as PM is right now.”

There were also voices of support for Najib, with user +Yazid Atan?
@yazidatan posting on Twitter: “PM Najib did a very good job on #PMSpeaks. Never mind the nay-sayers. Haters will be haters. We are behind u sir @NajibRazak! All the way.”

There were also the fun tweets, like the one by Huzaifah,
using the handle @huzaifah, who posted: “I wish there is a live debate session between TUN M and Rosmah.”

In the interview aired last night, Najib addressed among other issues the Altantuya case, denying that he anything to do with the murder and asserting that he had already sworn that he did not know the Mongolian woman.

He also said that 1MDB had not parked money in the Cayman Islands, an issue that was recently raised by Dr Mahathir in his criticism against Najib.

The prime minister had been pressured to explain the situation with 1MDB which recorded RM42 billion in debts over the past few years.

Answerable to no one individual

Najib also told TV3 that he was not answerable to any "individual" but to the people and those who elected him.

"I was elected by my party and by the people to lead the country. As such, I am answerable only to the rakyat - not to any individual," he said.

He, however, did not mention that only 47 percent of voters backed him and the ruling BN coalition in the last general election.

The prime minister also conveniently ignored that it is individuals who make up the populace and the fundamentals of a democratic nation is that each voice, no matter how insignificant, must be heard.  

Moreover, Mahathir is raising the same questions which the people have been asking all these years.

These questions were also posed by opposition lawmakers, who like Najib, have been elected by the people to represent them.

Among others, they include the motive behind the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and if anyone had ordered the hit on the Mongolian woman, and the messy cover-up involving private eye P Balasubramaniam's conflicting statutory declarations.

These were not addressed by Najib last night. He merely reiterated his innocence and that he did not know Altantuya.

Or could it be that the 'individual' Najib referred to was Rosmah Mansor, his larger-than-life wife?

According to a veteran observer, since Mahathir's attacks appeared to be directed at Rosmah for her alleged profligate spending, and there has been widespread speculation that she calls the shots in Putrajaya, Najib felt compelled to clear the air that he is not answerable to her nor does she dictate his actions.

Irrespective of who the premier had in mind, the fact is, his answers would not placate Mahathir and the octogenarian could be expected to up the ante in the coming days and weeks. - mk
