– Bernama
Penang acts against 'Chin Peng Drive' rumour...
The Penang state executive committee has directed that a police report be lodged against state Umno youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim for trying to incite racial tension and hatred against the minorities.
Lim (right) said Rafizal had spread rumours that Gurney Drive would be renamed Chin Peng Drive, when there was no intention by his administration to do so.
"It is a very malicious slander as it was an attempt to lie to the rakyat and incite racial hatred towards the minorities here," Lim said in a press conference today.
"These are lies to divert the attention of the people from the real problems in Umno," added the DAP secretary general.
Yesterday, in a press conference in George Town, Rafizal demanded for a clarification from the state government if Gurney Drive would be changed to Chin Peng Drive, after the late Communist Party of Malaya's secretary general.
Rafizal said he received the information from a source in the chief minister's office but declined to name the individual.
He warned that Umno would strongly protest against the move if it were true.
Lim challenged Rafizal (left) to reveal the source of the information and provide proof of his allegations as this was an attack against the entire state government.
"Where did he get such information? If the CM does not know about it, how did he know?" Lim asked.
"How can Umno just live on lies? At least speak the truth once," he added.
Lim said there was no plan to rename Gurney Drive and the state exco felt that Rafizal's accusation was "too extreme".
On whether legal action would be taken against Rafizal, Lim said he would take it "step by step". - mk
