6 bulan lagi Surendran dan Adios Spain, blame Najiblah...

'Bodoh', 'hodoh' gamatkan hari akhir Dewan Rakyat...

"Kata minta maaf!"celah Tajuddin.

"Sah, Parlimen kita macam 'rubber stamp'. Kita membantah keras cara Parlimen diperalatkan begini.

– 19 Jun, 2014.

Surendran suspended for 6 months... again

PKR vice-president and Padang Serai MP N Surendran has been slapped with a six-month suspension from Parliament.

Meanwhile, PKR deputy president and Gombak MP Azmin Ali was ejected from the House during a heated altercation when the motion to suspend Surendran was tabled.

Gombak MP Azmin Ali said if the Speaker was upholding public interest then why was the petition signed by 3,015 Felda settlers rejected.

“What about the public petitions on Lynas and the fishermen’s concern over neighbouring rivals entering the waters of Malaysia?

“Yet, when the issue concerns a opposition member, an emergency motion is allowed to be passed,” he added.

Pakatan Rakyat MPs chanted "rubber stamp" loudly in protest towards the end, echoing Surendran's accusation about Parliament being a rubber stamp, which is one of the reasons the motion to suspend him was moved.

A visibly agitated opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim later told reporters, "It’s official. Parliament is indeed a rubber stamp."

Anwar Ibrahim said the debacle was a mockery of parliament as the suspension was approved without even a debate.

He said they were looking for an excuse for all the issues raised to overturn the motion.

“The Speaker claimed that it is in the public interest to ensure the dignity of parliament is maintained. Is this the way to maintain parliament’s dignity by not being allowed to debate or criticise?” he asked.

Minister in charge of parliamentary affairs Shahidan Kassim read out the motion against Surendran, who irked the government due to remarks made in a press conference on Monday.

Azmin was ejected for refusing to apologise to a deputy minister after accusing the latter of having "an ugly attitude".

Surendran said the motion was not in the interest of the public, but promised that he will be back in six months to fulfil his duty as an elected representative- mk

Refer Bible issue to court, sultan orders Jais...

Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today ordered the state Islamic department (Jais) to promptly refer the issue of whether to return or destroy the seized 321 copies of the Bible to the prosecutor and court for final determination.

This, the ruler said, is in line with the minutes issued by the Attorney-General’s Chambers that Jais takes the next appropriate action, according to the law.

"Jais should promptly refer to the state public prosecutor for it to be taken to court for final determination," the sultan said in a statement issued by his private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani.

However, the ruler did not state which court  - civil or syariah - the matter should be referred to.

This action, the sultan said, is to ensure that the law is upheld and would not affect the sensitivity of the two parties involved.

The sultan said the issue should not be politicised by any quarter in causing confusion by proposing solutions which are not based on the law.

"Do not use this issue to promote your self-interest and make political gains for your groups," he warned.

He said religion is a sensitive issue, and people should be careful in making comments.

"Those who are not directly involved should refrain from making any irresponsible comments or meddle in the situation and worsening it further," the ruler said.

Normal procedure

A lawyer familiar with such procedures said the sultan's instruction is the right move and is normal procedure, but some people may not understand this.

He said although the matter was cleared by the attorney-general, the item seized is still considered a contraband.

"Its like a drug case or someone who has sensitive documents on the country, but the prosecution decides not to charge the person, are the items returned back? Certainly not."

"So in this case, the matter can be brought to court where the prosecutor will bring the case and the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) can be present for adjudication for the court to decide whether these items could be returned or otherwise.

"This is the proper way for the matter to be brought to court to decide," said the lawyer who declined to be identified.

Selangor Islamic Affairs Council (Mais) chairperson Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa had on June 14 said it would act under Section 407 of the Criminal Procedure Code to get a court order on whether the item is produced or impounded.

The section states that the court can order either forfeiture, confiscation or destruction of the items.

BSM: Unlawful to keep our Bible

Meanwhile, Bible Society Malaysia said the fact that the attorney-general had closed the case meant the copies of the Bible should be returned immediately.

"Jais' insistence that it intends to hold on to the seized Bible, pending a court order for the release, pursuant to the Criminal Procedure Code, is therefore without foundation.

"More importantly, it is a total disregard for the provisions of the Federal Constitution and an absolute breach of the rule of law," BSM president Ng Moon Hing (left) said in a statement.

He added that if the holy books are deemed unlawful, then is "absolutely unacceptable" for Jais or the Selangor Islamic Affairs Council (Mais) to speak of disposing the items.

Ng also lauded the prime minister's advice to the Selangor religious authorities to follow the attorney-general's advice. - mk

Adios Spain! Blame Najib Because He’s The Culprit...

Spain is toast, out, history, kaput. The defending champion of 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2012 Euro Cup is out in the very first round of the present 2014 FIFA World Cup. Who could have predict that? It was a humiliating display when the Spanish team lost 0-2 to Chile, after lost 1-5 to Holland earlier. Goals from Eduardo Vargas and Charles Aranguiz put the final nails into Spain’s coffin.

It seems to confirm the believe that their era of “Tiki Taka” was as good as “Paul the Octopus”. Spain did it 4-years ago largely due to lady luck from the octopus. Once it died, so did the team’s spirit. Did anyone notice how the Spanish team still looked disoriented and demotivated from their 5-1 defeat against Netherlands? Gosh, we really hope you didn’t bet your whole fortune on Spain-vs-Chile, did you?

Now, after lost the second game in Maracana Stadium with no points and a goal difference of 1-7, that’s one of the most disastrous record in any country’s football, if not the worst. Perhaps over-confidence and arrogance had succeeded in their mission on the Spanish boys. As FIFA World Cup and Euro Cup champions, naturally the players thought they were invincible.

Chile won handsomely because they displayed a splendid game of close co-ordination and superb teamwork. It was like a team of 11 Chileans moving in unison slaughtering and whipping each of  Vicente Del Bosque’s boys one after another. After all, the Chile team doesn’t have any big name that could create arrogance. In short, they have nothing to lose by pushing their limits against Spain.

Okay, let’s admit it – the Spanish team was so bad that even Australia played better than them (*tongue-in-cheek*). Regardless whether the Spain team were bought or otherwise, the writing was already on the wall earlier. Around 100 Chilean fans broke into Maracana Stadium’s media room, defeating security gate and guards, in their attempt to watch the match. It was as if they knew their team would win.

Surely it wasn’t an auspicious day for the country’s new king as well. Felipe VI of Spain takes over the throne, following the abdication of his scandal-hit father Juan Carlos. With the embarrasing early defeat, the new king will have little to throw to the Spaniards to celebrate, let alone telling the people that the country’s economic problem would be better.

But there’s another person you can blame, if you’re superstitious. Not many moons ago, in his attempt to score some brownie points with the young voters, Malaysia prime minister Najib Razak boasted about his favourite team Manchester United. Ironically, Manchester United lost 1-6 to Manchester City. This time, Najib talked about his favourite, Spain. Amusingly, Spain lost horribly.

Interestingly, Najib’s beautiful wife, Rosmah Mansor, also has the same magical effect. The country’s badminton champion Lee Chong Wei would find it hard to play whenever Auntie Rosy is around. Perhaps the player was more concern about Godzilla hug than the game itself. If only Najib can choose any team rather than Spain, perhaps gamblers would have a happier morning today.
