Najib ooi - Kalu PRU tu permainan badminton Lee Chong Wei pun akan kalah...

Guan Eng - PRU bukanlah permainan badminton...

"Ia hanyalah satu serangan politik kosong," katanya.

- TMI

The general election is not a badminton game, Guan Eng tells Najib...

The general election, which has to do with the future of the nation, is not a game, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who hit out at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for comparing the results of the polls to a badminton match.

The Penang chief minister said today that Najib cannot compare the election results to that of a badminton match, adding that Najib's analogy was illogical.

In his policy speech at the opening of the Umno general assembly yesterday, Najib who is party president, had used a badminton analogy to describe the "irrationality" of PR's claim that it had won the 13th general election based on popular vote.

“Let me put it in an analogy. Najib versus (opposition leader Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) in a badminton match. In the first set, Najib wins 21-15 and loses in the second set, 5-21. However, Najib wins in the deciding set 21-16.

“Going by the rules, Najib wins but Anwar objects because his total points is 52 to Najib’s 47. That is not right. We decide the winner based on the number of sets,” Najib had said.

Lim disagreed, saying the analogy was illogical and did not make sense.

"In a democracy, the majority wins and Pakatan Rakyat won more than 50% of the popular votes.

"Do not try to hide the fact that BN is the minority government," Lim said today.

Yesterday, Najib refuted PR's claim that it won the popular vote in the general election by 51% and argued that BN won the popular vote in nine states compared to PR's four, and that Umno as a party also won more popular votes than any of the PR parties.

Lim pointed out that in badminton, the full score for each set is the same at 21 points although the winner is determined by the number of sets he wins.

"But in the election, it takes different number of  'points' to win in different constituencies. In some places, you need 50 or 100 points. In Kapar, you need 160 but in Putrajaya all it takes is 17. How can this be fair?

"If this is a badminton game, even (national shuttler) Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan (of China) will not win," he said.

Lim said BN should just accept the fact that PR won the majority of votes in the election based on the one-person one-vote principle and as such, should have been the rightful winner.

Kapar was the largest parliamentary constituency in the country with 144,369 voters in the 13th general election.

It has nine times the number of voters of the smallest constituency, Putrajaya, that only has 15,798 voters.

Meanwhile, when asked to comment on Najib accusing PR of being the cause behind Malaysia's loss of a RM40 billion investment from Taiwan, Lim asked for proof.

"It is an outrageous suggestion. Can they prove that it was our fault?

"It is just an empty political attack," he said.

Najib said PR's smear campaign to stop the Rapid petroleum refinery project in Pengerang, Johor, had caused the Taiwanese investors to pull out.- TMI
