Zulkifli Nordin calon 'winnable' Najib tapi Ibrahim Ali bukan...

BERITA SEDIH - IBRAHIM ALI KENA KENCING TIKUS

Zulkifli Nordin in, Ibrahim Ali out...

Zulkifli Noordin has been picked as BN candidate to face off with Khalid Samad of PAS in the Shah Alam parliamentary seat. This is a face-off that will see them repeat their rivalry, though this time, from opposing sides of the political divide.

Selangor BN coordinator Mohd Zin Mohamad believed that Zulkifli Nordin will be fielded against incumbent Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad because he was a "most winnable" candidate.

Speaking to reporters after BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak announced the list of BN candidates for Selangor, Mohd Zin said Zulkifli fit BN's transformation plans.

"We welcome (him)... We have to transform. This is what we call a political transformation that has been initiated by the (interim) prime minister.

"Shah Alam is an Umno seat. But today, we are ready to invite a BN-friendly to be our candidate. So that itself is a transformation.

Asked about the possibility of his former compatriot contesting against him last week, Khalid was rather nonplussed, but welcomed his 'friend' to his stronghold, adding that the people of Shah Alam know about him and Zulkifli and are matured enough to make the right choice.

NONEZulkifli (right) who was 'borrowed' by PKR from PAS, won as Kulim Bandar Baru MP in 2008, but was sacked by PKR and became a BN-friendly Independent afterward.

He was sacked for his long standing feud with Khalid as both publicly traded barbs. The Kulim Bandar Baru MP even lodged a police report against Khalid and also spoke out against the party and the opposition coalition in 2010.

His name was announced this morning by BN head Najib Abdul Razak, who is also Selangor BN chief.

Significantly missing from the BN candidates list is controversial figure, Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali.

Ibrahim was widely touted to be picked to defend his Pasir Mas parliamentary seat in Kelantan under the BN ticket. However, the seat would be contested instead by the Pasir Mas Umno deputy chief Che Johan Che Pa.

Mukhriz Mahathir will be moved to contest in Ayer Hitam state seat in the fast-approaching general election. The announcement further fuels speculation that the incumbent Jerlun MP is being slated for the Kedah menteri besar post should BN succeed in taking over the state.

Ayer Hitam state seat is located under the Jerlun parliamentary constituency. The seat allocation could also potential heighten infighting within the state Umno machinery ahead of the general election as to the post of MB.

This is particularly between supporters of Mukhriz and Ahmad Bashah, as well as with a third group said to support former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Mukhriz’s father Mahathir reigned as the nation’s longest-serving prime minister for 22 years and remains popular in Kedah where he was born.

According to a survey by Universiti Utura Malaysia last year, BN was more likely to recapture PAS-held Kedah should it field Mukhriz as a menteri besar candidate.-malaysiakini
