Penang BN candidacy list 'final' despite protests...
The Penang BN will not review its candidacy list despite mounting discontent among those who were dropped or have not been nominated to contest the 13th general election.
State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow said the list is final and that the coalition has made its stand on internal saboteurs.
Asked
about the three BN leaders who are on the warpath because they have
been dropped, Teng said: "I wish them well. It is up to them (if they
want) to go as Independents.
“There is nothing much I can do because they have put self-interest above party interests.”
Last night, BN Batu Kawan coordinator A Mohan resigned from Gerakan, closed down his branch and took along with him 192 members.
Mohan said he may contest as an Independent or on a Parti Kesejahteraan Insan (Kita) ticket in the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat, as well as in a state seat. He will make a decision by Saturday, when nominations will have to be filed.
Former Tasek Gelugor MP Shariff Omar, who wants to re-contest the seat, has decided to run as a "Pakatan-friendly Independent" candidate.
Two members of his team have threatened to contest in Sungai Dua and Teluk Ayer Tawar if their preferred candidates are not fielded.
Sungai Dua incumbent Jasmin Mohammed, who attended Shariff's ceramah last night, has expressed unhappiness with the list as well.
‘Up to them, lah!’
It is learnt that several others also dissatisfied with the BN candidate list may announce their decisions to run as Independents in the coming days.
Teng (left) brushed aside the complaints on the selection process, saying: "Everyone is complaining, not just them.
"Those who are dropped are complaining. What to do?"
Asked if he would intervene in the state Umno and Gerakan lists, Teng laughed, saying "Up to them, lah".
Mohan had complained that he had been promised the Batu Kawan seat by state BN secretary Omar Fauza and told to make preparations on the ground.
"He (Mohan) can make all kinds of accusations, but I am not going to comment any more,” retorted Teng.-malaysiakini
