PM's approval rating plunges two points...

Just months before the 13th general election (GE13) is to take place, a survey found that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's popularity rating has dropped two points to 63 percent, from 65 percent last November.
azlan"While satisfaction among Malay and Indian voters remained strong at 77 percent and 76 percent respectively, the sentiment among Chinese voters had dropped to 34 percent," pollster Merdeka Center said in a statement today.

This is according to a phone poll carried out by Merdeka Center in December last year, on a stratified random sampling of 1,018 registered voters comprising 59 percent Malay, 32 percent Chinese and 9 percent Indian respondents, selected based on ethnicity, gender and state of residence.

The survey also found that voters’ perception of the government remained lukewarm with 45 percent respondents happy with the government, while 47 percent of the respondents said that they were happy with the Barisan Nasional ruling coalition.

Merdeka Center polled the respondents between Dec 15 and 28, last year to gauge voters’ perceptions of current developments in the country.

The poll took place just after the Umno general assembly, interviews and statements by businessperson Deepak Jaikishan and former chief of police Musa Hassan, as well as controversies over ‘Amanat Haji Hadi’ and use of the word ‘Allah’ by the non-Muslim community.

The pollsters found there were differences in views expressed between by the younger and the older generation, men and women, and between those of lower and higher income.

Previously it was reported that Najib's rating rose by one per cent last November, following the tabling of the 2013 budget, compared to 64 percent recorded in June this year.

The November study found satisfaction with the PM markedly improved among voters under the age of 30 years old - increasing from 61 percent to 68 percent.

Last July, it was reported that Merdeka Center found Najib's approval rating was 64 per cent compared to 65 per cent in May after it found a significant drop in Malay and Indian satisfaction over his performance.

The independent pollsters found Malay respondents' satisfaction of Najib's performance was 75 percent, down four percent from May, while the figure was 69 percent for Indian respondents, down three percent.-malaysiakini

Najib’s ratings at 63pc, but response lukewarm to BN and government...

A new poll of voters released today points towards hotly contested elections this year, with fewer than half of those surveyed saying they were happy with the government or the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s ratings, while still relatively high, dipped slightly by two points to 63 per cent in the poll conducted late last month, from 65 per cent in November.

According to Merdeka Center, the survey carried out among voters in Peninsular Malaysia at the end of December 2012 found that the prime minister’s approval rating had slipped slightly from 65 per cent in November 2012 to 63 per cent.
The survey found that while satisfaction among Malay and Indian voters remained strong at 77 per cent and 76 per cent respectively, the sentiment among Chinese voters had dropped to 34 per cent.

The survey also found that voters’ response towards the government remained lukewarm, with only 45 per cent of the respondents saying they were “happy with the government”.

With regard to the perception towards BN, 47 per cent of the respondents said they were “happy with Barisan Nasional”.

The poll also uncovered significant differences between different demographic groups.
Among women, 53 per cent of those polled were happy with BN, while only 40 per cent of men shared the view.

For rural voters, 56 per cent were happy with BN, while only 42 per cent of urban voters had the same stand on the ruling coalition.

A total of 70 per cent of female voters were satisfied with the PM’s performance, while only 57 per cent of male respondents were happy with Najib.

Najib’s ratings were also good among 70 per cent of rural voters as opposed to only 60 per cent of urban respondents.

The survey was carried out by Merdeka Center after last year’s Umno general assembly.-malaysian insider
