'Sorry we are closed, Rosmah's in town'...

The Malaysian embassy in Qatar has been closed to the public for three days to facilitate a visit by Rosmah Mansor, wife of prime minister Najib Razak.

The Malaysian embassy in Doha, Qatar.

A notice informing about the closure had been sent to the Malaysian Association of Qatar, the organisation representing Malaysian expatriates in the Gulf nation, who number close to 5,000.

A source in Doha told Harakahdaily that the move was unprecedented, being the first time that the embassy is shut to welcome a state guest.

"We can understand if the office is closed in conjunction with the Agong's or PM's visit. But to close because the prime minister's wife is coming, it's troublesome," said a Malaysian citizen in Doha, lamenting the difficulties faced by those who had to deal with the embassy.

It is understood that even visits in the past by the Agong and the prime minister had not resulted in closure of any Malaysian embassy.

Rosmah arrived Sunday to deliver a keynote address at the Qatari Businesswomen Association's programme at the Inside Investor Forum Asia 2012.

During her stay, she also met Sheikha Noor, wife of the Qatari prime minister, accompanied by Malaysian officials.-harakahdaily
