Ready for the'Santa Claus' budget...
The upcoming 2013 Budget to be tabled by prime minister Najib Razak is widely expected to be tailored for the coming general election, but PAS's research head Dzulkefly Ahmad has advised both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to exercise discipline in tabling their respective budgets.
After its cash handout programme costing some RM2.6 billion under phase one of the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia, Dzulkefly said Najib had become addicted to the “sundries’ way” of solving national economic woes through such initiatives as Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia and Kedai Ikan 1Malaysia.
But Dzulkefly said he expected PR to do the same.
“I think BN and PR will be competing to ‘give’. Najib will not this chance to distribute gifts to all segments slip away, with all sorts of incentives like the second phase of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia,” he wrote.
Dzulkefly said with the 13th general election looming, the public would be interested in the budget in as far as how it benefits them.
He said the 2013 Budget should introduce a National Public Transportation policy, policies to fight crime, and solutions to housing woes.
He added that as the developed status remained a distant dream, PR’s policies and solution would not be enough to improve the country’s competitiveness as hoped by the people.
“Only time will tell,” he said.- harakahdaily
