Mysterious 'Muhyiddin to be PM' posters appear in Johor...
Mysterious
posters supporting Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to succeed
Najib Abdul Razak as the premier before the 13th general election have
been distributed in Johor.
However, Johor Umno has denied that the posters were published by the party and has lodged a police report over the matter.
Images of the poster, which has Muhyiddin’s portrait together with Malaysian flag, have been widely circulated on the Internet.
The poster reads ‘Kami Mahu Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Sebagai PM Sebelum PRU 13' (We want Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister before the 13th general election) at the bottom and ‘Selamatkan Barisan Nasional’ at the top.
It also bears the logos of BN and Umno, as well as the words ‘publication of Johor BN’.
According to Weisic Tan, 21, who posted the images on Facebook, several Malay youths were distributing the posters to the people at the entrance to a shopping mall in Skudai, Johor, about 3pm on Merdeka Day.
“They wished shoppers ‘Happy National Day’ and distributed the posters to them. After a while, they placed a stack of the posters at the mall’s concierge area and left,” the mobile phone retailer told Malaysiakini when contacted yesterday.
Tan said the youths wore ordinary clothes and did not appear to be linked with any political party.
Police reports lodged
Yesterday, Johor Umno Youth lodged police reports over the posters in Johor Baru and Kulaijaya, claiming that it was an act to cause a rift between the national leaders as the general election approached.
According to a Berita Harian report today, Johor Umno Youth chief Zulkurnain Kamisan said it was a slander to link the incident with Umno.
“It is a provocation by quarters attempting to undermine the unity of Johor Umno and BN, which are now focusing on the preparation of the party machinery.
“It is unacceptable to link Johor BN as the party responsible for the publication of the posters.
“To me, this is a strategy of desperate people who want Johor Umno and BN to quarrel and break apart. However it will not at all dampen Johor Umno and BN’s spirit and determination,” Zulkurnain is quoted as saying.
The Malay daily reported that the posters appeared in several shopping malls in Johor Baru and in Penang as well.- malaysiakini
