Pressure now on Muhyiddin over NFC scandal
Pressure seems to have shifted to deputy prime minister and former Agriculture minister Muhyiddin Yassin, as UMNO leaders carefully passed the buck for him to respond to the scandal involving National Feedlot Corporation.
In a twist of events, prime minister Najib Razak tasked Muhyiddin, who was responsible in approving the NFC project in 2007, to find a solution to the RM250 million scandal following a temporary freeze of the company's assets last Friday.
Current Agriculture and Agro-based minister Noh Omar had also deflected media questions on NFC, saying that Muhyiddin was best to issue any response over the issue.
“It’s okay, this one, you ask DPM,” Noh repeated twice, before adding that he had to leave, when asked by reporters.
Even Singapore’s Business Times ran a report which said Muhyiddin was to be held accountable over the fiasco.
“The Agriculture and Agro-based ministry must be investigated for giving out this soft loan of RM250 million to NFC,” it said.
The paper said the ministry’s act of disbursing all the allocated funds a year after the deal was signed should also be probed.
Shahrizat, the Women, Family and Community Development minister, is currently on a three-week leave to give way to an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, following documented evidences of abuse of the company's RM250 million government loan involving her family members who form its top managemment.
Meanwhile, PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar called on the government to set a royal commission of inquiry, saying it could provide more details of the saga involving the NFC, which was approved by committee on High Impact Projects chaired by Najib.
“Only then the roles of Najib and Muhyiddin can be ascertained,” said the Pokok Sena member of parliament.
