PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has charged that the police are being used as tools by their political masters to once again “embarrass” him. Speaking to reporters after giving his statement at the Kepong police station this afternoon, Anwar explained that the investigation follows a police report he had lodged on March 22 against ‘Datuk T’, who had screened a sex video of a man purported to resemble him.
"I had made the police report that there was a threat saying ‘if Anwar and (PKR president Dr) Wan Azizah Wan Ismail do not resign, they (Datuk T) will expose everything’.
"But (instead of investigating the threat), (the police are carrying out) this investigation, supposedly wanting to identify who is in the video, to embarrass me again.
"The criminals who have killed, stolen cows, squandered hundreds of millions of ringgit are not investigated."
Anwar arrived at the Kepong police station about 3.15pm, accompanied by Wan Azizah.
They were flanked by some 15 supporters.
Officer Teh Boon Ang recorded Anwar's statement for close to an hour.
Some eight Light Strike Force officers were stationed inside the police station.
Anwar’s legal team consisted of R Sivarasa, N Surendran, PKR legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya and lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri.
Also present to show support were Johor PKR chief Chua Jui Meng and PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar.
Investigation paper 'sent back'
Sivarasa later revealed that the investigation paper for the case had been submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers but had been sent back for Anwar to be questioned.
"The attorney-general (Abdul Gani Patail, left) has been implicated in fabricating evidence in Anwar's earlier cases as alleged by (former Kuala Lumpur CID chief) Mat Zain (Ibrahim) and now we are seeing the attorney-general's hand again," he claimed.
The probe against Anwar was opened after Shanmugan Moorthy, the investigating officer in the 'Datuk T' case, lodged a police report that Anwar had knowingly given him false information, an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
'Datuk T' has screened the sex tape for several members of the media at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur in March last year.
The trio later revealed themselves as businessperson Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, Risda chairperson and former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.
They have since pleaded guilty to screening an obscene video and were fined by a Magistrate's Court in June.
