Musa Hasan refuses to answer questions...

Former IGP Musa Hassan refused to answer to questions posed by Anwar Ibrahim's lawyers - just as they were getting into the merits of the case during the interview with him today.

Lawyer Sankara Nair said initially Musa was quite cooperative when the lawyers and Anwar met him.

Initially, Sankara said Musa answered some questions.

"However, just as we went to the merits of the case, Musa replied that he did not want to be a defence witness and he did not want to be interviewed," Sankara said.

Anwar interjected, saying, "It was scripted."

Sankara said the meeting with Musa lasted about five minutes after he came at 2.30pm.

Along with Sankara at the interview were Ram Karpal and senior lawyer Param Cumaraswamy. Karpal was notably absent.

Sankara said the defence was upset because although the judge had said witnesses may have the right not to answer, Musa should have assisted.

"His name was directly brought up by the complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. Hence, he should be assisting us," he said.

"Who knows, what he might have said could have assisted in our defence. But Musa chose not to."

Saiful had testified that he had spoken to Musa after calling his handphone. He said he got the the number when he overheard it being given in a conversation between the then deputy prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak and an officer. Saiful had gone to see Najib to complain about Anwar's behavior towards him.
Sankara described the interview with Musa as calm despite the fact that former IGP had been investigated over alleged fabrication of evidence in Anwar's first sodomy trial. There was no lawyer accompanying Musa in the interview.

Another witness who was also interviewed by the defence was Anwar's former aide, Mohd Khoharullah Abdul Majid.

Pusrawi nurse tomorrow

Sankara also told reporters that Pusrawi Hospital nurse Yazihan Jusoh who was scheduled to appear today did not come as she had to tend to her husband who was not well.

"She asked for the interview to be conducted tomorrow afternoon and we will meet her," he said, adding all that is left is the second Indonesian maid, Fitria Dipan, She had returned to Indonesia and the police are believed to be trying to locate her.

Following today's session, a total of 23 witnesses have been interviewed including Najib and his wife Rosmah, whom the lawyers and Anwar met on Friday.

Anwar is scheduled to begin his defence on Monday where the opposition leader has three options - to testify under oath in the witness stand, testify at the dock where he cannot be cross-examined or chose to remain silent.
