PKR today lashed out at the police for preventing its 'Jelas - Tawan Malaysia!' programme from being held at the Kg Bukit Changgang community hall in Kuala Langat tonight and demanded to know why the permit depended on party adviser Anwar Ibrahim not attending.
PKR Selangor information chief Shuhaimi Shafiei said senior officers at the Kuala Langat police headquarters imposed unreasonable requirements for giving the go-ahead for the event.
Shuhaimi said this was the first time PKR has met such resistance to its event, having organised it in 12 other venues earlier in Klang, Hulu Langat, Tanjung Karang, Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar and Selayang, with no problems from the police.
"We told the police we expect around 1,500 people to attend, and then they asked why the venue was so small because the crowd might spill out and they can't have that," he said when contacted.
"They also said we cannot put up a screen outside, and they limited the venue to only 400 chairs. Then, they said Anwar Ibrahim and (PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali cannot attend. What is this?"
Shuhaimi, who is also Sri Muda assemblyperson, said this was not the first time the event - sanctioned by the Selangor government - was being organised and is dumbfounded by the excuses given by the police.
Police cordoned off hall
He claimed that because PKR and the state government insisted on going ahead with the event, the police decided to cordon off the hall in Kg Bukit Changgang since last night.
The organisers then decided to move the event to Salak Tinggi, but were again stopped by police, who Shuhaimi said sent three patrol cars and blocked off the road leading to the new venue since this afternoon. "This is an indoor event sanctioned by the state government, and by right we only need to inform (the police) of our event.
"When we asked for a permit, they don't want to give us one. When we said we still want to go ahead, they don't want to allow us to do so. This is very clear double-standards."
Shuhaimi said PKR would go ahead with its 'Jelas - Tawan Malaysia!' programme, scheduled to start at 8.30pm, as it was the party's "responsibility" to raise public awareness of their rights and about Pakatan Rakyat's promise for the people should it take over the federal government.
The event will now be held at the PAS headquarters in Taman Gemilang in Dengkil. Among those expected to attend tonight's event are Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, Azmin, state executive councillors and local leaders.

Bukan apa polis, pembodek besar UMNO rasa jealous kerana bila UMNO buat ceramah tak sampai 100 orang hadir, makanan pula bertimbun, berbanding dengan ceramah PR....
cheers.
Tapi masalahnya, setiapkali PRU atau pun PRK, PR tersungkur. Sebenarnya rakyat dah bosan dengan BN (barang naik) ni. Rakyat kata diorang TIDAK UNDI BN akan tetapi BN menang jugak. Ada yang tak kena nie.
