Interlok man receives sex video in mail...

An anti-Interlok leader said today he received the controversial sex video in his mail. Datuk Thasleem Ibrahim(right), chairman of the National Interlok Action Team (NIAT) said the DVD was mailed to his Jalan Damansara office with a Thailand stamp, and the words “Prasan Mit” written on it, which he assumed was the originating post office.

He believes he is one of the few who’ve received the video allegedly showing Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“It’s puzzling me. Probably, could be they all know that I have a big difference of opinion with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; the issue of September 16 takeover of Putrajaya to which I very strongly objected,” he told The Malaysian Insider, calling the move “unIslamic”.

Thasleem said another possibility could be the fact that he had been a front runner to champion various causes and in this case he said, involves low moral activities. When asked why he had waited three days to lodge a police report, he said he was busy, and also that he needed some time to watch the video himself.

“It was a 16-minute clip, I watched once to convince myself of what is there,” he said, adding that there was a digital watermark with Thai writings and the numbers “2011” throughout the video.

“In my view, the face of the lady actor was so clear, the other one looks like Datuk Eskay... and the third person, everybody says it is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim but I’m very sure it’s not him,” he said.

Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, one of the “Datuk T” trio who had initially revealed the tape had admitted that he was in the video.

“Any responsible citizen would have done what I did, go to the authorities and hand over (the dvd). I let the authorities to decide what to do with it,” he said.

Thasleem lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi Police Station, but was told to head to the Mutiara Damansara to give his statement and hand over the dvd because the location of his office, where he received the package was under the latter’s jurisdiction.

“My only request is why all the religious leaders for example the muftis, why are they so silent on this issue? Why can’t they come out and say this is not right?” he said, pointing out that they had instead focuses on miniscule issues such as the Poco-poco dance ban in Perak.

He said religious leaders should speak out against exposing the tape and question why this case has not been resolved yet.

“This is wrong from the Islamic perspective. There are a lot of issues the Muftis are keeping quiet,” he said.

Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam was also reportedly received a copy of the DVD said on April 30. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar revealed Wednesday that several other people have also received copies of the CD in their mail.

“We can confirm that a number of VIPs including politicians have received copies of the video believed to have been distributed by certain parties. Several police reports have been lodged,” he was quoted by state news agency Bernama.

The video first made headlines on March 21 after it was aired to selected media outlets at the Carcosa Seri Negara by an individual identifying himself as “Datuk T”. Two days after the screening, the trio of Shazryl, former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim came forward to reveal themselves collectively as “Datuk T”.

Following a police investigation into the screening, the trio claimed to have surrendered the only extant copy of the sex video to the police. The unedited video had also been uploaded to video sharing website YouTube on April 28, but was taken down shortly after for violating the site’s terms of usage. Prior to that, two “teasers” of the clip had also been uploaded to the same site.

The police have denied involvement. Anwar has accused Datuk Seri Najib Razak of using the ongoing sex video saga as his main weapon to keep BN in government.
