AG find ways to prosecute Anwar.....

Although police investigations regarding the sex video are focused on the distribution of pornographic materials, PKR believes that the attorney-general (AG) will take the opportunity to indict Anwar Ibrahim.

"We believe that the AG, on the orders of the BN regime, will find a way to prosecute Anwar," said party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution in a statement today.

This, he alleged, is part of a wide-ranging conspiracy created to destroy the opposition leader's political career, akin to the ongoing sodomy trial which he claimed is also part of BN's career-assassination attempt.

He cited a Bernama report which quoted Bukit Aman CID chief Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani as saying that investigations have been completed. Acryl reportedly said the police are only looking at possible infringement of Section 292 of the Penal Code for the offence of distributing pornographic materials.

The same report said that the police findings have been submitted to the AG's Chambers, and did not in any legal way implicate Anwar in the video. Saifuddin contended that the statement is consistent with Anwar's denial that he is not the man in the video.

Regardless of the police findings, he still believes that the AG will use the opportunity to implicate Anwar in the case and try him in court.

'BN's dirty politics'

He also expressed PKR's disappointment with BN's 'dirty politics' and its trespass against religious precepts and good human conduct, just to hold on to political power. On March 21, a select group of journalists and senior editors were invited to a screening of a video of a sex act between a man closely resembling Anwar and an unidentified fair-skinned female.

A trio calling themselves 'Datuk T' claimed responsibility for the screening. They later identified themselves as former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik, businessperson Shazryl Eskay Abdullah (right) and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.

Anwar lodged a police report, leading to the investigations.
