UMNO is baiting PAS to re-join BN....

Pakatan Rakyat leaders were confident PAS will not join Umno despite the lures thrown out by Prime Minister Najib Razak, who badly needs to knock a deal with the Islamist party to secure a sure-win in the next general elections, widely expected to be called within the next few months. News that the King had officiated at the dinner event that included Najib, his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS spiritual adviser Nik Aziz Nik Mat, PAS president Hadi Awang and his deputy Nasharudin Mat Isa sent a tremor through the Islamist party. However, it created lesser impact in its Pakatan partners PKR and DAP.

"Firstly, if PAS really wants to go, then it will go. Nothing PKR and DAP can do to stop them. But after so many rounds of these so-called unity talks, we are confident PAS will stay with Pakatan Rakyat. We have our common policy framework and all of us have agreed on this," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

"For PAS to join Umno is more difficult that most people realize. Not only is Nik Aziz against the idea, Hadi is not fond of Umno either. What we observe though is that the top PAS leadership may be feeling a bit concerned about their Islamist stand being marginalized within Pakatan itself. PKR and DAP too have their respective concerns, but for the BN press to blow it up as Pakatan being on verge of breaking up due to ideological differences is too far-fetched and getting very stale."

Clear the air swiftly, do not deceive the people

Indeed, many PAS leaders were unsure about the latest Umno-PAS meeting. Hadi and Nik Aziz are due to issue a joint press statement soon. "I was not informed of this meeting and have no idea about it except for what I read in the press," PAS vice president Mahufuz Omar told Malaysia Chronicle. The news was first leaked in Siasah, a PAS-controlled newspaper, which quoted Nik Aziz's private secretary as confirming the meeting but denying it involved "unity talks".

PAS was a member of the BN in the 70s but parted on such bad terms that leaders such as Nik Aziz have been scarred by the incident that nearly destroyed the Islamist party. Since Pakatan's unexpected electoral success in 2008, sweeping control of 5 of the country's 13 states, Umno has been baiting PAS to re-join BN for the sake of Muslim and Malay unity.

Pundits point to the Tenang by-election due to take place at the end of January, warning Pakatan especially PAS to respond swiftly or the BN would surely make their favourite issue of "fighting-Pakatan-partners" a key attacking point in their campaigning strategy.

Kalau Najib dah begitu popular,setelah imejnya diperkemaskan oleh APCO dengan nilai RM77 juta duit rakyat,tak perlulah ajak PAS jadi member BN untuk bertanding dalam PRU ke-13 nanti....

Aku rasa kerana ada Tuan Guru Nik Aziz,mungkin tak ada apa yang tercapai. Apa yang pasti UMNO sudah tersepit....
