The people of Perak gave victory to Pakatan Rakyat(PR) on March 8 2008. However, the 10-month-old Perak PR state gomen fell into turmoil after three of its state assemblymen, two from PKR and one from DAP, quit their respective parties to become BN "friendly Independents".
What transpired in Perak should serve as a lesson for Pakatan Rakyat(PR) about forming governments through party hopping.
Anwar had repeatedly claimed that he would form the federal gomen on Sept 16 through the defection of more than 30 BN MPs.
Of course, September 16 came and nothing happened. Even my enthusiastic neighbour asked the postman who was delivering letter on that day, said," Itu gomen sulah tukar kah?"
His deadline had created much excitement in the nation but it had failed to materialise.
Suddenly, after losing in two free and fair by-elections, Najib finally claims victory in Perak by undemocratic means. Through tactful means, Najib manoeuvred the whole game to checkmate Anwar’s Pakatan Rakyat.
Najib had it all planned out. Najib planted a trojan horse that goes by the name of Nasharuddin Hashim, who craftily joined PKR but later made a U turn, when the road to trounce the Perak gomen was clear enough. Najib, with a stroke of dirty strategy staged a political coup d’état that toppled the Perak state gomen.
Najib needed this victory badly because his popularity within Umno was down the dumps, especially after the humiliating defeats BN/UMNO suffered at the hands of Pakatan Rakyat in Permatang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu. Najib and BN/UMNO know that BN/UMNO will be washed out if they have to face PR in a snap election in Perak now.
However, from the beginning, PR was handicapped. In Perak PR started had a very slim majority win over BN in the last general elections and any defections would have crumpled the PR gomen anyway and that is what had happened.
With both the PR and BN having 28 seats each, the right thing to do would have been to call for fresh elections. You can't include the 'Independents' in this equation. The only reason why the 3 "frogs" who call themselves as 'Independents' are not in BN is because they don't want to be seen as been bought over by Najib. Only an idiot will buy their crap that they are Independent.
A few days ago, Raja Nazrin said, "Sultan's must take a neutral position when political issues arise and even he have indicated the future of Royal family if they fail to stand neutral." But, its sad to note that the Sultan sees it differently for some reasons only known to his royal Highness.
I believe that the Dewan must called to order and then decide the MB’s fate. They should put the question to a vote of confidence on the floor of the Dewan. Only the answer of the assembly counts. You dont just simply fire the MB and has another one picked instantly.
Now, BN/UMNO is boasting that the 3 “ friendly independent” assemblymen is backing the BN/UMNO. For BN/UMNO, admitting these frogs into its fold, only demonstrates that BN/UMNO will compromise virtually anything to win the political game. These "frogs" were virtually bought over by UMNO and by turning their self as UMNO's political prostitutes, they lost all the respect and integrity to be a Yang Berhormat.
Remember two "frogs" are facing graft charges, while one "frog" jumped twice and the fourth "frog" seems lost and frustrated. But what is the guarantee that these "frogs" or anyone from BN would not jump ship in the near future and cause another political crisis to brew in Perak? This is anyone guess...... They may be happy now, but they will regret very soon. Lets pray that happens......
This is a lesson for Anwar and his Pakatan team. Please avoid this form of “hijacking” in politics. Instead Anwar should strengthen the Pakatan pact and mould it into a powerful coalition that will serve as an alternative party to make their journey to Putrajaya in the next general election.
Damn....politics is so dirty........
Read here, here , here, here and here.
cheers.
Its ok if the frogs joined pakatan but not ok if alligned to BN...If anwar takes over federal govt its alright not to dissolve parliament, but if BN takes over state govt state assembly must be dissolve!
ReplyDeletebut BN buy frogs openly and will do what ever they can to be in power. PR no money, that why Nasaruddin cabut....
ReplyDeleteFrog Jumping is simple.Don't bribe, kidnap or intimidate members of parliaments or state assemblyperson.
ReplyDeleteBut UMNO/BN bribes, kidnap and intimidates the opposition members to jump ship. Why the 3 PKR & Nasaruddin were brought to Pekan?
Money, kidnapped, intimidated or whatever, Singa Karpal has spoken...need i say more!
