DYMM Yang diPertuan Agong,Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, has consented to the appointment Court of Appeal president Abdul Hamid Mohamad as the new Chief Justice.The Penang born Abdul Hamid,65, was made acting CJ when Ahmad Fairuz retired on Nov 1, shrouded with controversy linked to the Lingam tape.The gomen,until today is still silent about the Royal Commission of Inquiry.


On another note,the job of Court of Appeal President went to the former UMNO legal advisor Zaki Tun Azmi. Zaki’s Tun Azmi ascension to the Federal Court too is shrouded with mystery and became the first person to be appointed straight to the Federal Court, bypassing the convention of first serving in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He has yet to proof himself to be a capable judge,but by the sheer genius of patronage politics and brand of power he is parachuted to the current position with no question asked.

His lightning-fast promotion to the judiciary's No 2 post is unprecedented and confirms the notion that the judiciary isnt independent as it seems to be. Zaki served as Umno’s legal adviser and disciplinary committee chairperson. He was also the party’s selection committee secretary and deputy chairperson of the disciplinary board appeal panel.He stepped down from these posts in 2005 following his controversial divorce episode. He described his appointment to the judiciary as a national service,though the public would rather perceived it more as an UMNO service to the gomen.

I am still wondering whether this UMNO patron has resign from the party or is he still carrying his membership card in his wallet ?
