Najib - RM 3 juta SRJKC Rasa dah tunai, RM49,000 Felda bila lagi......

“Jadi kira-kira RM850,000 masih belum dibayar.

P212 Sibu - Robert Lau(BN) vs Wong Ho Leng(DAP)....

Lawyer Robert Lau Hui Yew, 45, is Barisan Nasional's candidate to defend the Sibu parliamentary seat in the by-election next month. The choice of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) Sibu branch assistant treasurer was announced by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud in Kuching today.

Abdul Taib said the prime minister had agreed to Lau's candidacy as he fitted the BN's brand new image.

"I must congratulate the SUPP for choosing the best candidate," he said.

Present was Deputy Chief Minister Dr George Chan Hong Nam who is SUPP president. Chan is confident that the people would support the BN and the party, which he said had reinvented itself.

"We picked Lau because we want to give the opportunity to a young and energetic leader in our party to serve the people; it's a new beginning for the party," he said.Chan said Lau's approachable attitude would be his winning trait.

Lau, 45, fondly known as Robert Lau Junior, is the second cousin of the late five-term Sibu MP Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew who died on April 9 after a long battle with liver cancer. He has been the favourite for the seat owing to his active participation in party work as well as his friendly approach.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced tonight that the DAP Sarawak chairman and state assemblyman for Bukit Assek, Wong Ho Leng , will be the DAP/Pakatan Rakyat candidate for the upcoming Sibu by-election. Guan Eng made the announcement at a fund raising dinner that in Sibu.

It was attended by DAP leaders including its parliamentary leader, Lim Kit Siang, national vice chairman and MP for Cheras Tan Kok Wai, national treasurer and MP for Bukit Bintang Fong Kui Lun, national vice chairman and MP for Bandar Kuching Chong Chieng Jen, MP for Jelutong Jeff Ooi, sssistant national organising secretary Vincent Wu, and Sarawak DAP deputy chairman and state assemblyperson for Kidurong, Chiew Chin Sing.

Pakatan component parties were represented by PAS' secretary general, Mustafa Ali, PKR Sarawak deputy chairman, Zainal Abidin (who was representing his National President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Was Ismail who missed her flight earlier in the day) and Johnny Wong of SNAP.

Over 2,000 guests, including significant number of Iban community leaders, attended the dinner.

Mat Sabu - BN can forget about Selangor........

PAS central committee member Mohamad Sabu said should the voting pattern in Hulu Selangor continue into the next general election, the Barisan Nasional can forget all hopes of wresting back Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat.

"This also means Penang will be remain under PR, Perak will throw out the BN state government and Negeri Sembilan could also follow suit," said Mohamad Sabu.

He said the PR would be able to win more state seats in Selangor although it could lose some of them to BN.

The recent Hulu Selangor by-election saw the BN wresting back the parliamentary seat from PKR which won in 2008 with a wafer thin majority of 198.

Racial sentiments among Malays

Sabu also said the trend in Hulu Selangor brought into open racial sentiments among Malay voters.

"UMNO leaders have succeeded in convincing the majority Malay voters that BN is Malay and vice versa. That was why they voted for BN," he added.

As such, he said PAS faced a huge challenge to explain to the people that UMNO and BN had been in fact traitors to the Malays since independence in 1957, and made use of narrow racism for their own interests.

He said this was because PAS was a majority-Malay party and it carried a burden to "free the Malay mind from such deviant thoughts which placed the interest of Islam and Malays on UMNO."

"We should leave our fate to God, not UMNO. It is unfortunate that a section of Malay political leaders tie their destiny to UMNO, ostensibly to defend Malay and Muslim interest," he said.

He reminded that if the PR leadership continued to administer the state governments to ensure they were corruption-free, not given to extravagance, live in moderation and were prudent in financial management so that money could flow back to the people, the current support for PR can be sustained.

Kamalanathan-You won the 'buy election'......

Read this interesting piece by blogger Aspan Alias(edited).........

Firstly I wish to congratulate Kamalanathan for his win in this hard and strenuous fight in Hulu Selangor ‘buy election’.

The one thousand over vote’s majority is considered to be the most expensive votes in the history of any election that one can reminisce.

All in all there were about more than 200 million spent and pledged to gain this a thousand over majority, among which 35 million ringgit just for one Chinese School; and that swung 20 percent of the Chinese votes in the whole of Hulu Selangor.

The hefty cash offer of fifty thousand ringgit each family to Sg Buaya settlers came up to be the most effective strategy for BN and it was an obvious and serious encroachment of the election printed regulations.

By that unethical election conduct, BN won with just over a thousand votes that makes up to be the most expensive vote purchase in our by or buy election in this country.

Now as Zaid Ibrahim has been saying in the past days he is fighting on uneven playing field, but what can we do? This is our democratic recipe in Malaysia.

Where can we go? We can’t be fleeing the country, just because there is an unfair election process. We stay and die here and from now on just let everything happens as it likes.

That is already an accepted practice in Malaysian politics; money, money and money. We can’t think of anything but don’t worry; they are experts in creating election technology. They know what and how to do the magic through big funds and they know exactly how to play that magic.

I hope Zaid and his followers won’t be disheartened by this well designed defeat and just accept it in good spirit even though you and everybody know why you lost; You went through a genuine by election while your opposing party went through ‘buy election’.

(Baca: Akhirnya, Zaid Ibrahim tewas!)

Pakatan Rakyat perlu muhasabah

P94 - Hulu Selangor - PKR kalah bukan kerana BN hebat sangat.......

majoriti - 1725
undi rosak - 731
peratus mengundi - 75%

Jika dikaji undi PKR sebenarnya meningkat dan kalahpun jika ditolak undi pos(undi deposit BN/UMNO) baru 1725-767 = 958. Itulah majority sebenarnya.

“This journey was built on our desire to seek truth and justice. If BN is desperate enough to do whatever to win, does that mean we should do the same? No! We fight with dignity"-Fauziah Sa
lleh PKR election coordinator.

BN has nothing to celebrate. PKR did not lose in Hulu Selangor. BN began with an advantage of over 6,000 votes from all three state seats it won in the parliamentary area during the last general election. What with the amount of corrupt money, racial campaign and lies through the Malay media especially, Umno should be ashamed it won only by about 1,700 votes. PKR still managed to get more than 40 percent Malay votes although Umno expected to harness more than 70 percent. There was increase of support for PKR in the Felda areas.- Syed Husin Ali, PKR deputy president

Orang Melayu Felda dan orang India Hulu Selangor hidup miskin bak zaman 60'an dan mahu kekal sedemikan selama2nya. Itulah pilihan mereka, kita boleh buat apa? Adakah RM1000 boleh menampung hidup buat selama-lamanya? Lu pikiaqlah sendiri.

Lawan tetap lawan........

P94 - Hulu Selangor - Selamat Mengundi.........

P94 - Hulu Selangor - Can Pakatan engineer a late swing.....

With barely hours to go, Pakatan Rakyat, which has earlier been trailing in the opinion polls, is mounting a last-minute assault to swing voter sentiment in Hulu Selangor. And judging by the warming response of the constituents to its ceramah, the opposition may just be able to pull it off. Still, the BN appears to have the advantage as it has locked in most of its supporters, while its foe is banking its hopes on the 15,000 out-of-town voters expected to return tomorrow for the balloting. Their eventual turnout will be dependent on the weather, traffic and a number of other factors.

Though initially bogged down over the choice of candidates, the BN was quick to put Pakatan on the back foot by launching an uglier-than-usual smear campaign. BN wasted no time in launching their attack, albeit indirectly through pro-Umno bloggers and the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia, to paint PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim as a drinker and a gambler. Top BN leaders initially kept their hands clean of these topics and left it to their 'outsourced' campaigners to do the dirty work, but in the later half of the campaign started taking part in the digs themselves. As former Selangor menteri besar Mohd Khir Toyo correctly pointed out, the accusations initially left PAS in a quandary as to whether its conservative ideology would allow it to campaign wholeheartedly for its ally.

The Islamic party only confirmed its decision to give all out support to Zaid midway through the campaign period, deciding to focus its efforts on the Malay community which makes up 52 percent of the electorate. The allegations against Zaid also caught the PKR off-guard, resulting in the party's leaders having to play defensive from nomination day. Even Pakatan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who typically draws large crowds due to his Umno-bashing rhetoric, had to undertake extensive damage control for Zaid during his nightly ceramah.
The second half of the campaign saw money blatantly becoming BN's major election currency, in complete disregard for electoral regulations. Yesterday alone, Prime Minister and BN chief Najib Razak handed out RM50,000 to some 100 Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers while RM90,000 in cash was given to a Chinese cemetery in the constituency. To top it off, Najib said this was merely the beginning and promised more goodies, but with a caveat: more will come only if voters give BN a chance to rule Selangor again. It has become nearly impossible to keep track of the amount of cash-handouts, promised allocations and other forms of incentives being dished out on a daily by the BN in canvassing votes.

Though the PKR-led state government can be accused of doing the same to some degree, and they are equally in the wrong to do so, their carrots have thus far paled in comparison. In the beginning it appeared that PKR would have home advantage. After all, the state government has implemented a slew of new policies aimed at the lower-income groups since it took office in 2008. These include providing free water, a senior citizens scheme, financial aid for single mothers, a special fund for Selangor-born residents (Selangor Born Heritage Fund, or Tawas) and cash for Selangor-born university graduates. However, all three state assembly seats within Hulu Selangor are controlled by the BN, and constituents appear to be ignorant of such state-implemented schemes.

PKR also appears to have missed the boat by failing to capitalise on the glaring weaknesses of BN candidate P Kamalanathan.Kamalanathan has been faring miserably in the media, failing to answer important questions and articulate himself on national issues, qualities critical for an aspiring federal lawmaker. His clumsy attempt to prove his University qualifications from an Australian university added to the candidate's list of minuses. Kamalanathan has since published his certificate on his blog, but the local college acting on behalf of the university has been unable to provide documentary proof of his enrollment. It also doesn't help that his certificate could not be verified on the university's website.

Even more shocking was that Kamalanathan was found to be a registered voter in Sungai Siput - where his party boss S Samy Vellu stood for elections in 2008 - though he does not reside there. Although technically legal, the ethics of doing so is questionable. These issues somehow escaped PKR's main agenda. Despite his many weaknesses, Kamalanathan has excelled in his voters' perception of his personality, whereas Zaid has been seen as lacking in that department. Kamalanathan is an all-smiling, handshaking-machine and this appears to have struck a chord amongst the rural folk regardless of ethnicity. Zaid on the other hand has been described as awkward and aloof when meeting the electorate, barely making eye-contact or small talk. Regardless of his shining career resume, the PKR candidate's public persona may not endear him to the voters.

In the end, the race for Hulu Selangor is far from over, and a lot hinges on the final hours of the campaigning today and the voter turnout tomorrow.- Andrew Ong

P94- Hulu Selangor - the scramble for votes......

With most analyst predicting a photo finish for the Hulu Selangor by-election, a mad scramble to convince fence-sitters, particularly Malay voters, in the final lap of the campaign. Like many other by-elections before this, top guns from both sides of the political divide will be making their presence felt, but the most widely talked about vote canvasser is PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

He is scheduled to hold a joint press conference with PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim today before visiting at least two Barisan Nasional strongholds in a bid to tip the scales towards Pakatan Rakyat's.

Nik Aziz is expected to declare PAS' stance on what BN labelled as Zaid's 'liberal' views, before going on the charm offensive in trying to convince the largely conservative Malay electorate, especially in Assam Kumbang, Rasa and Batang Kali, that the former law minister is their best choice come Sunday. The senior PAS man is seen as the ace in the hole for Pakatan in 'cleansing' Zaid's image after the BN's kaki botol (alcoholic) and kaki judi (gambler) smear campaigns against the PKR candidate, which had shown some effect with Muslim voters.

Felda flashpoint

While Nik Aziz tries to soothe his way through the hearts and minds of the Malay electorate, other Pakatan leaders will be flooding the Felda settlements in a last ditch bid to swing votes.

Early this morning saw the launch of a two-day National Felda Settlers Gathering event at Sungai Tengi, organised by the pro-PAS National Felda Settlers Childrens' Association (Anak).

The Felda settlement, located in Hulu Bernam, will be visited by a slew of top-ranking Pakatan leaders including PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, Zaid, PAS Selangor chief Hassan Ali, central committee member Muhammad Sabu and Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo' Lo' Ghazali.

Zaid's schedule is tight with visits to mostly Malay-centric areas starting at Taman Sungai Buaya (4pm) followed by Pekan Rasa (8pm), Apartment Teratai (9pm), Sg Tengi, Hulu Bernam (10pm), Hulu Rening, Batang Kali (11pm) and Kg Melayu Rasa Tambahan (11.30pm).

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim also threw his weight behind the campaign with a dialogue session with Felda settlers at Kg Sungai Buaya in Rawang. BN may have mobilised their forces a bit later, but it is no less hectic for electoral debutante P Kamalanathan, though his schedule for the day seems to focus more on non-Malay areas.

It would appear that the BN machinery is not leaving anything to chance by letting their candidate focus on Indian, Chinese and Orang Asli areas such as Ulu Yam, Kuala Kubu Baru, Kerling and the various Orang Asli settlements dotted around the constituency. - Joseph Sipalan and Regina Lee.

I quit after complaints from Rosmah & PM's Dept.....

The award winning ntv7 journalist explains the reason for his shock resignation as producer for the current affairs talk show 'Editor's Time'.

I have on April 20 resigned as producer for ntv7's talk show 'Editor's Time'. I am dissatisfied on the way the company has handled two complaints which came from the Prime Minister's Department and the First Lady (Rosmah Mansor). The complaints came after the airing the programme's Kuala Lumpur roadshow (March 19) and Penang roadshow (April 8). The company, without conducting due investigation, set unreasonable restrictions for the talk show on the issues to be discussed as well as those to be invited as panel speakers.

The restrictions are:

1) The show not allowed to discuss political issues;
2) Opposition leaders cannot be invited to the show, including DAP MP Tony Pua who was to take part on the topic relating to the New Economic Model, and
(3) Ban on the 'Hulu Selangor by-election' show, which was originally scheduled for April 22.

These restrictions are not justifiable. It has threatened the independence of my job as producer. It is also a form of self-censorship, which is against the principal of fair and independent reporting. These restrictions have seriously affected the professionalism of the producing team.

According to my superior, Tan Boon Kooi (ntv7 Mandarin News and Current Affairs executive editor), the first complaint was made on March 19 after the airing of the roadshow in Kuala Lumpur the day before. The complaint came from the Prime Minister's Department via SMS.

This SMS was forwarded to me by email through Lee Siad Huey, the host of 'Editor's Time'.

It said: "Mereka memperlekehkan KPI dan polisi BN. Memperlekehkan '1Malaysia'. Mencabar PM agar rombak besar-besaran BTN.

The SMS came from an anonymous writer, and its contents do not make sense and are full of racial remarks.

Without finding out more about it, the company threatened to cease the production and demand for my explanation. Lee and I had on March 22 written to the company, rebutting each and every accusations, and suggested to the company to make a police report pertaining to the racial remarks stated in the SMS, which was seditious.

However, the company did not take my suggestion seriously. Not only did they not lodge a police report, they have instead ordered that the talk show be prohibited from discussing political issues. During a meeting on April 2, I suggested Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua to be a guest speaker to talk about the New Economic Model (NEM) scheduled to be aired on April 15. But my direct superior Tan Boon Kooi told me this, "If you invite Tony Pua, then this production will cease."

He also told me that from now on, no opposition party member can be invited to the talk show. When I pressed further, Tan told me that this was only an advice, not an order, from the News and Current Affairs ntv7, 8tv, tv9 and radio news and Prima Media group editor Manja Ismail. To me, this is a form of self-censorship from the company's top management.

On April 16, News and Operation ntv7, 8tv and tv9 general manager Sofwan Mahmood ask for a meeting with me and Tan out of the blue. Tan was busy at that time, and I attended the meeting alone. Sofwan asked about the topic for the next show, I told him it would be the Hulu Selangor by-election. He then said that it was not advisable as the BN had faced a major blow in its selection of the candidate for the by-election, and the show would embarrassed Najib Razak's administration. He then said he has never interfered in our task as a producer.

I told him that I would prepare a proposal for his consideration before any decision was made. He did not agree, but neither did he object. And his secretary, Dayang Norshida, asked me to write the proposal. After that, I met with Tan, and briefed him pertaining to my conversation with Sofwan. Tan said, "Sofwan did not say it clearly. He actually wanted us not to talk about the by-election in the coming show."

Tan added further, "On Monday, the First Lady complained about your Penang roadshow - all the way from Washington... I hope you will change the topic."

I later found that the First Lady had received complaints from other people, and she re-directed the complaint to the top management. Tan said the content of the complaint is more or less the same as the complaint received after the airing of the roadshow in Kuala Lumpur. It is inevitable for Malaysians to discuss the Hulu Selangor by-election. Bear in mind that the original goal and aim of this show is to discuss current issues - the by-election is without doubt an issue that relates to public interest.

As long as the analysis is balanced, objective, and not tilted to one side, I believe that the show can, and will, result in an in-depth and meaningful discussion. We do not need to over-react on a totally unreasonable complaint, or impose such high level of self-censorship and stop discussing about the by-election altogether.

On April 19, I wrote a proposal to my superior seeking their approval so that the original scheduled show on April 22 can proceed. Lee and other crew members had gone to the constituency to do research and interviews.

On April 20, at about 2.30pm, Sofwan met me and Tan. At the meeting, Sofwan ordered that the show must not talk about the by-election - the reason given was to "control damage". As a result, we have to change the topic at the last minute. I guess what is meant by "control damage" is that we must use this talk show to protect certain parties and their interests, which is totally against the principle of fair reporting and our duty to seek the truth.

As a producer, I think that the two roadshows reflect a balanced and objective view, and they had obtained the approval from the Censorship Board. There is no reason for the company and the top management to impose such high levels of self-censorship and restrictions.

I refused to compromise, and I refuse to execute the company's order.

I think as a media practitioner, we should express our opinion and our stand without fear or favour. This is to protect the independence and professionalism of journalists. If we continue to keep silence, our silence will allow political interference, unreasonable self-censorship, and worse still, we will allow all sorts of racial remarks from all sorts of people. Racial politics and news self-censorship had been with us for more than 50 years. How can we continue to keep silence, to tolerate such a situation and allow this to happen again and again?
